RSPB stunned by Defra plan to 'imprison' buzzards

We are stunned by Defra’s plan to allow the destruction of buzzard nests and to permit buzzards to be taken into captivity to remove them from shooting estates. The Society believes this intervention against one of England’s best-loved birds of prey will set a terrible precedent and prove to be a costly and unnecessary exercise.

Threave osprey egg theft thwarted

A 24-hour watch has been put in place on osprey nests in southern Scotland after a suspected egg theft attempt.

National Trust for Scotland Countryside Rangers are monitoring the site on the Threave Estate near Castle Douglas.

Tweed Valley osprey chick could be first in Scotland this year

Volunteers in the Borders have spotted a hatched osprey chick in the Tweed Valley which they believe could be the first in Scotland this year.

It is the first of what they hope will be three eggs to hatch at a secret nesting site monitored by CCTV.
