BTO Bird ID - Goldcrest & Firecrest

The tiny Goldcrest, is a common year-round bird, found mainly in woodland and gardens. Its much rarer cousin, the Firecrest, is found in similar habitats. Can you tell the two species apart?

What is the blog about?

A Birding Blog is my personal record of birding in my local patch — a place to gather field notes, photographs, and video clips of the small moments that make time outdoors so rewarding. After moving home, my patch has changed dramatically: from a simple suburban garden to the open countryside and wetlands of Bickershaw Country Park, Pennington Flash, Byrom Woods, and the wider Wigan Flashes. These landscapes — slowly reclaimed by nature after their industrial past — are now where I spend most of my time. I wander with a camera, watch the seasons shift, and note the birds that pass through or call this place home. This blog is my way of capturing those sightings and documenting my birding trips, something I can look back on in years to come, especially when life eventually keeps me indoors more than I’d like.
