We
left Clive and Ruth's home around 03:30am and was taken to Heathrow
by Sian (Clive's eldest daughter), our flight (Swiss Air LX345) will
take off at 06:00am and land in Tel Aviv at 14:35.
Checked
luggage in and was told its going straight to Tel Aviv even though I
was going via Zurich :o) let us pray it gets there.
Zurich
Airport looks very modern and from the terminal where we landed we
needed to get a train to our connecting flight terminal.
A
corn bun and coffee for breakfast on the flight, not much but it did
the job, more the coffee I think
We
were split into 3 different groups and going at different times
(departure was about an hour or so apart) and split between Heathrow
and Luton airports.
We
prayed for all the groups and for their safe arrival in Israel.
At
some stage during the day we heard the other group going from
Heathrow had been removed from the plane due to a technical
issue/fault. Who was on this flight? Yes Billy and Mandy, couldn’t
believe it, wherever there is a catastrophe Mandy will be there
leading the way. We had text messages throughout the afternoon, not
100% sure of what was going on, the next we heard was they would be
put on another flight that was good news and arrive sometime in the
early hours – not a great start to their journey – a journey of
faith.
Even
though the journey was approx... 5 hours and with a short wait at
Zurich the time went fast, the airline fed and watered us on the
second part of our journey: Chicken Pasta, veggies, cake, coffee,
Beth loved it ha ha.
On
arrival in Tel Aviv we reclaimed our bagged – it arrived!! We went
through border control, I had to show my passport and answer some
questions on why I was here, where I was going, who I was seeing, who
I traveled with and so on. Something I'm not usually used to but
nowadays glad that security like this keeps us safe.
Once
we had our permits/visa James sorted our hire cars. We also met up
with the guys on the Luton flight who had also heard of the issues on
the second Heathrow flight.
Travelling
to Rina's (our apartments) and Joseph's house in Jerusalem with Ian
and Pam Lamb doing the driving/navigating, well done!!
Seeing
Israel for the first time, the terrain, feeling the heat, driving on
the wrong side of the road, everywhere you looked something new, all
adding to the excitement.
What
a place this is, the feeling of awe as I saw all the new things and
the expectation of the journey ahead, what an experience we were
going to have.
We
got to our drop off point and walked a short distance to our home for
the next few days. It was Rina’s Place. It is a large house, not
that you could see that from the outside but inside was massive.
Rina’s House was at Mitspe Street 21, Jerusalem located in a
Orthodox Jewish area. Our rooms were clean and basic all you need
really. The Kitchen was large enough for both groups to get together
and eat. Ruth made us a fantastic meal with pasta, sauce veggies,
unfortunately one of the food bags was still on the delayed flight so
we had to make do. Ruth asked for volunteers to get bread/pittas from
the market for tomorrow’s picnic and breakfast. Libby and I
volunteered and had our first adventure.
